BARGWANNA MISSES OUT ON TOP 10,
July 11, 2009

Jason Bargwanna has driven his Sprint Gas Racing Holden to 14th place and Greg Murphy was 19th in the first V8 Supercar race to be run in Townsville.

Bargwanna drove exceptionally well but missed out on a top 10 result thanks to an ill-timed safety car.

"We were looking good; we had the top 10 firmly within sight but the safety car came out just at the wrong time," Bargwanna said.

"At Winton the safety car worked in our favour, today it didn't.

"It was disappointing because we had a good strategy and the boys got me out of the pits pretty quick.

"I was happy with my mid-race speed, particularly after the pit stop. My times were on par with Lowndes' at the time - which was pleasing.

"We made some gains throughout the day particularly in terms of drive and turn.

"I'm looking forward to tomorrow's race. We've got two sets of tyres available and a car that I am sure will be better than today's."

Murphy was involved in an incident on the first lap when several cars jostled for position at turn two. The result was a bent guard rubbing up against the right rear tyre. He was forced to come into the pits to have the damage repaired.

"We needed to fix the damage or the guard would have quickly worn out the tyre," Murphy said.

"This put us a lap down and ended any chance of a good result. Given what has happened today finishing 19th was actually quite a decent result."
