Sprint Gas Racing's Jason Bargwanna has praised the team's development programme after he had his best Friday practice of the year so far.
Competing at Darwin's Hidden Valley Raceway for the V8 Supercar Skycity Triple Crown, Bargwanna posted today's 12th fastest time but was rarely out of the top 10.
In what is only his sixth event with the team, Bargwanna is starting to make impressive progress after a year out of a full time V8 drive.
"I'm more in tune with the chassis and the changes we make, which is having a positive impact on my results," Jason Bargwanna said.
"When we make a directional change to the chassis I can feel how this impacts the car; whether it be positive or negative, which is priceless.
"We have had a building programme in place since the start of the season made up of deliberate progressional changes.
"Some don't understand how competitive the championship is, there was less than a second separating the top 25 today, which is staggering.
"Step by step, and event by event we are improving - which is exciting."
Bargwanna and his team mate Greg Murphy want to get more out of their tyres but were both happy with their Sprint Gas Holdens.
"We rolled a competitive car out of the truck today ... we spent the majority of the day in the top ten," Bargwanna said.
"The car is performing well, but we need to find a way to get a little more out of the tyres, doing this will find us some more time.
"If we can do this I'm confident of having two top 10 results for the weekend - which is my aim.
"We were robbed of two good results at Winton; I think we can do it this weekend."
Murphy is looking forward to qualifying and tomorrow's race.
"Today's session didn't flow as well as we would have liked, thanks to a couple of minor mechanical issues, but once we got going it was clear that the car was good," Murphy said.
"The data shows, as do the sector times, that there's a faster time to be had.
"I'd say that today has been solid, the team has worked really well and I'm looking forward to tomorrow. I'm happy."
