Bent steering early

The Sprint Gas pairing of Jason Bargwanna and Mark Noske will start tomorrow's Phillip Island L&H 500 in 14^th place after Bargwanna drove an impressive race to finish sixth in today's qualifier.

Bargwanna drove one of his best races of the year, made a sensational start and overtook several cars to go from 18^th to sixth in the second 14 lap qualifying race.

"We had a really good result today," Jason Bargwanna said.

"I had a fantastic start; I just got myself in the right position and made up a lot of positions.

"The car was really strong over the race distance; with some further fine tuning I think we could do well tomorrow."

Murphy, driving in the same race as Bargwanna, was turned around after contact on the first lap bent his steering.

"Shuffling in the pack on the first lap gave me bent steering early on," Murphy said.

"Then I tried to drive under Jase (Jason Bargwanna) and came out sideways - which was not an ideal situation.

"From then on I was chasing position and points."

Earlier in the day Mark Skaife finished the first qualifying race in 21^st and Mark Noske was 25^th, with both completing the compulsory pit stop.

"We went well early then smashed up the rear tyres and started going backwards," Skaife said.

"So we pitted while running tenth to give Murph a clear run in the next race.

"I was happy with my start, getting straight into the top ten, and felt we could stay there. We would have been higher still with better tyre wear."

Mark Skaife and Mark Noske finished the first L&H qualifying race in 21^st and 25^th respectively while Bargwanna was sixth and Murphy 15^th in the second race.

Their combined points have Bargwanna and Noske starting the ‘500' in 14^th while Murphy and Skaife start 22^nd.
