Sprint Gas Racing's race strategy had Jason Bargwanna in line for a top 10 result until Cameron McConville took him out of today's race at Hidden Valley Raceway.
McConville was a lap down when he tried to overtake Bargwanna on lap 34 of the 69 lap race. The dubious move caused contact between the two Holdens damaging Bargwanna's left rear diff housing forcing retirement.
"The team played it very smart today, we had a really strong strategy that we felt would give me a very good result," Bargwanna said.
"Starting on soft tyres, I worked my way up to third on the road when I came in for my first stop.
"Soon after I was limping back to the pit garage after Cameron (McConville) took me out.
"To top it off he took me out of the race when he was a lap down. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. I'm ropeable.
"We were well on the way to having a top 10 result. It was a result that definitely went begging."
Bargwanna had a strong first stint while on soft tyres.
"The soft tyres were working well and helped me improve from 15th to third," Bargwanna said.
"We also did a longer first stop for fuel so that our final stop would be a bit shorter.
"I was feeling really confident, the car was working well and a top ten result was looking very likely.
"The team has worked hard to get this car going well; it would have been a nice reward for all the work done had we been able to finish."
Greg Murphy finished the race in 21st place.
