Sprint Gas Racing's Greg Murphy has recovered to finish 15th after qualifying 23rd in the weekend's first race at Phillip Island.
Murphy steadily made his way through the field in a car that was much more competitive compared to the car he was driving in the day's morning sessions.
"It was good to salvage a result,' Murphy said.
"Fifteenth is not where any of us want to be but given the car we had this morning I'll take it.
"We had a perfect strategy and the boys did a good pit stop - putting me back on track ahead of Ingall.
"Thanks to the cars falling off the road ahead of us we were looking at twelfth but I didn't have the pace to match those immediately around me, so I lost a few places towards the end.
"We had an overall lack of grip and a problem with aero.
"An aero issue prevented me from passing and gave a tow to those behind me. It's something that has just surfaced; we've not had this problem this year. So we'll have a look at how we adjusted the car and fix it.
"The car was not nice to drive this morning, so it was pleasing to improve it for the race."
Jason Bargwanna was disappointed not to have backed up his impressive Gold Coast results.
"That was a tough race," said Bargwanna.
"We flat spotted a tyre, had an excursion through the grass and had a very strange problem with the rear tyres.
"The rear tyres were way too hot, temperatures were ridiculously high. This is not an issue if the tyre pressures are high also, but they weren't.
"It felt like the car wanted to spin around on you because you had no rear grip.
"We're not sure why this happened. We'll be having a good look at why this was happening."
Murphy finished today's 100km race in 15th place while Bargwanna was 24th.
