The most experienced driver pairing at the Super Cheap Auto 1000, Greg Murphy and Mark Skaife, have put in a strong performance to qualify for tomorrow's top 10 shootout.
Murphy and Skaife hope to mount a serious challenge in Sunday's race having finished ninth in today's qualifying session.
Murphy led times early and hovered inside the top five for the majority of qualifying.
The Sprint Gas Racing full-time driver expected more from his Commodore today.
"I'm a little bit disappointed in our performance, I actually expected to get more out of the car today," Murphy said.
"The car was feeling really nice on the first set of new tyres but we were not able to get any further gain out of the remaining greens.
"It's nice to have made the shootout, but in all honesty, I always expected that we would make it.
"We'll look at some changes, nothing major, but something that might help us qualify higher up the grid than where we were today."
Skaife expects the car to be more competitive in race trim as opposed to a one lap flier.
"We didn't get the tyre gain that we hoped for, which was not good news for qualifying, but okay for racing trim," Skaife said.
"The car needs to be a bit sharper because we finished further back than we expected.
"However, we cruised into the top 10 which is a good thing."
The second Sprint Gas Racing entry of Jason Bargwanna and Mark Noske started the day off strongly but fell off a little to qualify for Sunday's race in 15th place.
"We were obviously doing nicely yesterday, and this morning we were also strong, so to have qualified 15th is disappointing," Jason Bargwanna said.
"The computer said we had a seven, six (2m.07.6s) time in us and we looked like we might get there but the red flag put a stop to my run.
"Look, it's a long race and anything can happen, I'd rather qualify in the top 15 rather than the bottom 15."
Bargwanna believes that despite today's performance the car will be competitive come race day.
"We've got a fast car, there's no doubt," Bargwanna said.
"We weren't fast enough in qualifying today but we'll be one competitive unit on Sunday.
"Tomorrow will be a long day with not a lot of driving to do, so I'm looking forward to the race."
